This is an existing industrial building. They have an underground service entrance that comes into a CT cabinet, then up to the main disconnect switch (1200 amp). The entire service is getting an upgrade. The new main service disconnect will be outside, with a new CT cabinet outside.

Can I... leave the underground service entering the building, then go back outside into the new CT cabinet and new main disconnect?

Unfused service conductors are entering the building now, so I'm not making things any worse, just moving the main disconnect outside.

All the details surrounding this would be too lengthy to discuss. For the purposes of this thread, I'm not looking for alternative methods, I have several different ways worked up already. Just looking for code references or particulars about this method, interior entrance with exterior disconnect. I would imagine the power company would have a lock on the old CT cabinet, just like they do now.

Thanks guys,

Earl

There is this NEC section that will apply and it is very much up to the local AHJ what it really requires.

VI. Service Equipment — Disconnecting Means

230.70 General.
Means shall be provided to disconnect all
conductors in a building or other structure from the serviceentrance
conductors.

(A) Location. The service disconnecting means shall be installed
in accordance with 230.70(A)(1), (A)(2), and (A)(3).

(1) Readily Accessible Location. The service disconnecting
means shall be installed at a readily accessible location
either outside of a building or structure or inside nearest the
point of entrance of the service conductors.

But we are also talking about unmetered conductors so that means the power company has a say in it. Some would not allow it, some would.
