manual transfer switch

I would like to install a manual transfer switch in between the meter and the 200 amp single phase panel in a residential home. Do I need to have a means of overcurrent protection before the transfer switch, or is it OK if the transfer switch is "Service rated". Then would I need to bond the neutral and ground in the transfer switch and treat the main panel as a subpanel, separating the neutrals from the grounds.
Please advise!

Re: manual transfer switch

You must use a service entrance rated transfer switch. OCP is not required, but some TS switches are available with normal and generator fusing. Where the bonding is done can be confusing. Check with your AHJ , I have seen it required two different ways.
