I have seen a lot of threads end with "follow the manuf instructions" and I have a question to that reference.
I have just wired 2 seperate sump pumps for a basement drainage system. Both on 15 amp circuits with single rec for each. Remebering the posts I looked at the manual and it said " as with any submersible pump a gfi outlet is recommended ". Do you guys take this a requirement or just a cya on there part? Thoughts?

Personally I don't like sump pumps on GFCI protected circuits. The two sump pumps in my own house do not have GFCI protection and never will. The thought of the GFCI tripping and destroying an entire finished basement keeps me from putting the pumps on a GFCI protected circuit.

I'm sure its for liability reasons, for the instance someone was working on the pump/motor it was plugged into a regular outlet and got injured. That way that can say "I told you so".

I agree that sump pumps are not a good idea on a gfi. Certain states might require it but ,hopefully NJ doesn't, there would be a lot of nuisance tripping around here. Hell we don't even require AFCI'S...yet. Maybe I'll give Susan Borek a call in Trenton

to make sure. In the town I live in just about everyone has a french drain system.
The instructions usually states "requires" or the like, I guess that the liability issue makes them print "recommend". Thx guys I'll leave the single rec.
