I recently was asked to wire a friends new modular home. Installed a 200 amp service with all the requirements in the code book. When I was landing the service entrance wires I noticed that there were no arc fault breakers installed in the panel. Is this a code violation? Do manufactured homes fall into a differant catagory as far as Single family dwelling?

Re: manufactered home

Manufactured Homes are covered by Article 550; however, the federal HUD regulations are based on the 1993 NEC (I think) and AFCI's were not around then.

So to answer your question, if it left the factory, it was inspected just as an appliance is inspected, and met the federal HUD regulations. The only thing a local inspector is permitted to inspect is the field wiring to get power to the mobile (Manufactured) home. :D

I assume I will be corrected if I am wrong, this is the way I remember the facts.

Re: manufactered home

Thanks Charlie
In my feable electricians brain that is what I thought might be the case. But if that is true and something happens (God forbid) and the lawyer folks get involved and find in fact a violation of code ................. well you know the rest of the story. It does not seem that the manufactured housing folks should be able to get by with, by todays standards, substandard work.

I want you to know that I am shooting from the lip on this one, I am trusting my memory. Therefore, if someone would verify or correct my statements, I would feel better.
