For anyone who owns a boat, does boat wiring (like I do on occasion), marina wiring, or has an interest in how seagoing and land electrical systems differ, I suggest you pick up a copy of the May/June issue of Professional Boatbuilder magazine.
There is a very informative and thorough article in there about some key differences between boat and land systems, as well as test procedures for shore power hookups, and lots of other information.
Even if you never do this work at all, I would still suggest you get a hold of a copy and read the article.
