Hey Guys, In MD you have to be an electrician working under a master for 7 years before you are eligable to take the exam. Well I was an elctricain for 9 years. I have my state certified 4 year apprenticeship card. But the problem is I have been out of the trade for a couple of years. Just doing work on the side here and there for a licensed electrician however it is not documented. I heard that if I get three Masters to sign off on me I would be eligable to take the exam. Is this true. I need guidance.
Thanks

Sorry for being long winded

Thanks Bryan but all they did was refer me to PSI. I am still trying to talk to a real person there.

Re: Maryland Masters requirement?

I hold a Maryland state license with some Md. county licences and have never heard of this 3 masters sign off deal before.

In Maryland you have to choose a home county.

I don't know your home county, but it should be alot easier to go through the county than through the state to obtain your license. Each county holds the state exam. The State uses PSI.

I believe your 4 years of documented apprentiship is worth 6 months of time for the test.
You then would need to get employment verification letter(s) for the remaining time.

luke,

do you know what the employment verification letters need to include? i'm prior military hoping to use that military time as the experience needed to take the master limited exam, requiring 4 years of experience. i simply dont know how to go about getting that information from the military, because i dont have any personal contacts that i can turn to. thanks in advance.

Re: Maryland Masters requirement?

The employment verification letter must be signed by the Master Electrician that supervised your work. This is a real problem for some people, but that is the way the regulation reads at this time. The regulation also says "regularly and principally employed", so technically part-time "undocumented" work will not count toward your experience requirement.

Re: Maryland Masters requirement?

buddasak,

sorry, but I just now read your question.

I agree with haskindm in regards to your situation.
But I will say again that it is much easier to go in at the County level to take the exam than at the state level.
I would go into the county office and talk to them.

Re: Maryland Masters requirement?

To: velocity, I just sent you a PM, (private message). I am an instructor at Delaware Tech. & Comm. College. I teach the NEC for electricians who are going to take the Masters Exam. I gave you my home phone number and if you wish to discuss this further, give me a call.

Re: Maryland Masters requirement?

hmm...in VA which has a RECIP with MD....to take the masters you simply need to hold a journeymans for 1 year and then you can take the test.

AS proof of practical experience you simply provide a copy of your Journeymans license and thats it.
