Is it legal to use a "masonry box" in a sheet rocked metal framed wall? Obviously it's not a "masonry " application but I could use the extra cubic inches
Extra cubic inches compared to what? A 4 11/16 box with a mudring has a lot more fill. If you are talking about a single gang masonry box. Also, you are asking for trouble. Setting the depth of the masonry box on rough in is a pain and usually has about a 20-30% rework percentage once the sheetrock goes on. A 4S or 4 11/16 box with a mudring has many bracket options to set the boxes right. Masonry boxes are also expensive in relative terms. Is it legal to use a "masonry box" in a sheet rocked metal framed wall? As Eletrofelon stated the masonry box can a good option when you need more than 2 gangs.Extra cubic inches compared to what? A 4 11/16 box with a mudring has a lot more fill. I don't disagree with that point, but I point out that the labor and rework go up exponentially. As Eletrofelon stated the masonry box can a good option when you need more than 2 gangs.
