Does anyone know if a landscaper can wire low voltage fixture in Mass? I thought I read somewhere in the mass amendments or possibly the NEC that low voltage lighting required a journeymans license.

I really don't know but I know they do it around here. I have seen them bury 14/2 uf about 6" under the soil and then expect me to hook it up.

Hopefully Bob or someone from Ma. can help you here.

I was wondering this myself.
I see a local landscape contractor advertise landscape lighting and holiday lighting.

I am assuming they can install the lighting as long as it they don't do any line voltage wiring.
If the lighting just plugs in, it's like placing a lamp on a table.

I can see if the low voltage lighting just plugs in like a kit system maybe. But as I understand it some where in the mass amendments it says a license is requierd to install lighting fixtures. I am unclear as to what that could include. I mean if a landscaper or other person in bussiness for profit could install lowvoltage landscape lighting then what prevents them from doing low voltage lighting in the house? Our code has requirements for low voltage outdoor wireing. If an unlicensed business can install low voltage lighting what prevents them from violating the code for these fixtures and the underground wiring? What prevents them from improper instalations around pools?

I know the only way to get the final answer is to contact the state inspectors for clarification. Maybe some of you could give me ideas as to the pros and cons of allowing others to install this type of lighting before I write to the inspectors.
