Master Alarm Panels in Hospitals

NFPA 99 states that the master alarm panels for medical gases must be fed from the life safety branch of a hospitals emergency system. I have a situation where one of the required master alarms is being located in a seperate building from the hospital which does not have a life safety panel. Is there any code prohibiting me from running a feed over to this building from a life safety panel located within the hospital?

Re: Master Alarm Panels in Hospitals

I believe once you leave the hospital you leave NFPA 99.

If the location is a physical plant and they have standby power that emergency system would be OK to connect to. Physical plants for hospital are not considered healthcare but are critical to the operation.

If the location you describe does not have a backup power supply, chances are no one will be hanging around to hear the alarm during a power interruption. If no standby power is available and you still need to place the gas panel there, you can source the power from a LS branch panel and run a single circuit to the building. If you need another circuit for any other reason, you need to install a sub-panel at the new location.

But then you would be limited to only LS loads.
