Has anyone encountered problems with multi-state examinations wherein the state requirements for verifiable experience has created a situation that former employers are refusing to fill in the required forms for the the particular state? For example I have Master Licenses in Virginia, Maryland, South Carolina, and several cities in Texas. One former company is now refusing to fill out a letter of reference bcause he can't be bothered anymore. I need these licenses because the company that I work for is nationwide. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Master Examinations

Some states will allow anybody to fill out the affidavit of experience. That is anybody but yourself. The person who signs it must have direct knowledge that you did you what you said you did, but they don't have to be your employer. They might even have an in-lieu form for this. Hang in there!

Re: Master Examinations

From day one or better job one when I left an employer on good terms and I only left on good terms I got a letter of employment for my resume.
I feel this is the best way to go as some jurisdictions will only accept experience on company letter head and several of the companies went out of business before I applied for some of my licenses.

Once while applying for a DC licence (I had let the old one lapse like a dummy). I listed 12 years in the trade but only supplied eight years of references. Th DC govt. denied by application (even with copies of the past master license) because the letters I furnished did not add up to 12 years. Who knew those officials could add?

I have done when my past employer was not willing or not in business was to submit a copy of my current licenses with that state requiremnts and a letter documenting the license process of that states.

The state should accept a copy of your W2 form(s) as proof of employment. All that I know of do. Employers should not be required by law to fill out the forms when there are other means that the employee has to show proof of his/her employment. If it were required, the employer should certainly be able to charge for the service.

TY Rick:
That is fine when your dealing with reasonable Governments. Welcome to Washington DC, where common sense is not so common, and some of the out lying areas, where they don't want new contractors.
