Maybe you missed it on Mike's home Page, "Florida", Blue colunm on left.
& "Books", ETC.... Good Luck with your Studies ...

You'll get a booklet from DBPR which lists reference material. You'll look at it and think, why the heck do I need THAT book? My advice to you is get it, and study it, you will need it.

edit - that is when you are registered, not just debating taking the test.

The best advice I can give is to sign up for Mike Holt's course.
You will receive a study guide well ahead of time.
Read the books (all of them) as required, take the practice tests, go take the six day review, and on the seventh day you will be ready.
If you prepare according to instructions, it should be a breeze.
Good Luck!!
PS - When you see the book list, believe it. There will be questions on the test from every one of those books. I had three on curing concrete, chemical composition of concrete, and how long it is allowed to be mixed in the drum of a truck.

My advice is to buy ALL of the books, read as much as you can, practice taking the exam with the study guides from Mike Holt. I used the videos also. I didn't take any course, although I'm sure it can't hurt... the self study material worked great for me.

"Electricians don't give a rip about a concrete mixer!!"

I had a concrete question also. Something about at what temperature does poured concrete need to be covered to allow it to cure correctly.
I remember I actually found the answer in the "Concrete Mixtures" book.

You may not care but the State of Florida does.
How about design of signs and the pylons that support them?
How about burglar alarms, fire alarms, and neon?
These are all part of the curriculum for the Master's test as well.
They expect us to know it all if they are giving us an unlimited license to perform unlimited electrical work.

The Man said he is going for the Masters, not the contractors.......No need for further confusion...........Lets concentrate on the electrical problems for now and leave the concrete to the contractors......

The EC (Electrical Contractor) IS the master's exam for the State of Florida.
The only time there is a difference is if you only take the master's on a county level (which by the way is a complete waste of time unless you don't plan on ever working more than a few miles from your home).

The OP needs to let us know what exam he is attempting. Is the the County Master Exam (Prometric) or the State Exam (ECLB)?

O ok

O ok

Your right...he did say Florida......
When I pass the county level masters it will mean another 10 g's a year for me......hardly a waste of time eh? And if I did take and pass the test on a State level and come out an EC Id lose my job anyway.

It kind of makes sense in a way because of they terrible weather that can have down their and some of the biggest light poles i have ever seen. It only makes sense. How the hell do they change the bulbs on some of those poles? a BL perhaps (big ladder)?

Master Electrician exam in Florida

Master Electrician exam in Florida

Hi Marka 904,

I'm disappointed in the comments of my peers. Generally, the Master Electrical exam for most jurisdictions in Florida is with Thomson Prometric. Look at the following reference:

http://www.prometric.com/NR/rdonlyres/ehkopuitpo7jogpajju2cy3ry46zr42jtx5bygjx2n3nialevmhtod7ebaedcessau5za4b7hggksb7w6ck4n2apryf/F20112_75_20050927.pdf

Go to your local building department and see if they recognize Master Electricians and if surrounding jurisdictions around you where you want to work will reciprocate.

Any questions contact me:
