Material cost.

Morning guys, so I’ve been in electrical about 8 years and just became licensed last year so I’m trying to start taking on my own jobs. Currently I have a project residential home about 6,000 sq ft. Two kitchens, two laundry rooms. What is the best way to figure out the material. Like how much 12/2, 10/3 etc etc

Are you working from prints?

Sit down with a pot of coffee and a notebook.

That said, I'm sure we'll find out if the more savvy among us have some program/app that gets close enough...

Even though there are books and maybe softwares, but material count and number of hours to complete the project, usually comes from experience.

Some people do it by number of devices, cans, switches, circuits, home runs.... and some do it by square footage.

Not to discourage you, but 6000 sqft for your first project as a proprietor may be a big project.

The post seems to suggest he's just doing two kitchens and two laundry rooms and nothing else.

Yea I do have prints .

Your profile says that you were an industrial electrician. Have you done any homes of this type when working for others?

As far as materials go I would suggest you estimate on the high side and if anything is left over you can always use it on the next job. That's what I do.

2500 14-2 2000 12-2 1000 14-3 100 10-2 100 10-3 100 8-3

Basically this was my estimate and I wanted to see how close to anyone else I would be

Are you doing the entire house or just the areas you mentioned in your original post?

It would take me a half day to come up with a materials list on a job like this.
You need to know how many circuits you are going to use and where the main panel and any sub panels are located.

Just looking at it I would think that you are a little short on the 14/2. 2500 ft doesn't go as far on a large house as you would think. Again the location of the panel and routing of the home runs can make a difference. I would use 1000 ft spools on the 14/2 and at least get 3 spools. Once you are set up it rolls off easier.

Right, so far I just have a pic of the prints. I’m getting a physical copy later today and I’ll start drawing out the circuits.
