I have been told that handholes have a 6,12,24 rule for handholes i.e. 6" conduit for type 1,12"for type 2, and 24" for type 3 handhole. I am looking for code reference to this but all I find is 314.28(A) you can calculate but must use trade size as measurement. any help is appreciated.

Try 410.15(B)(1) and 314.29 and 314.28 as you posted.....Thats all I have.

314.30 refers to 314.28. The boxes are sized just as junction boxes are.
