What is the max height of circuit breakers in a panel (OCP)? Isn't there a code that the max height of a MAIN circuit breaker be no more than 6.5' from floor to the handle at its highest point? Code reference please. Thanks

Bennie, are you sure about that?
The last time I checked my book said 6'7"

The maximum height for the top breaker or breakers is 6'7". This does not apply only to the main. The main can be at the bottom on some panels.

I stated that 6'5" is permitted due to it being less than the maximum.

All circuit breakers used for premises wiring are switches.

I was reading the National Electrical Contractors Associations, book titled National Electrical Installation Standards, Good Workmanship in Electrical Contracting.

Article 11.3

Panelboards

Commercial. panel boards shall be 6ft 7inch above the finish floor.

Residential. ADAG compliance, in dwellings the highest overcurrent device is a maximum of 48 inchs above the finished floor.

Makes you wonder, doesn't it.

Russ, this seems to be another case of conflicting information. :) The ADA side approach to a device, switch, breaker, etc... is 54".

4.2.6* Side Reach. If the clear floor space allows parallel approach by a person in a wheelchair, the maximum
high side reach allowed shall be 54 in (1370 mm) and the low side reach shall be no less than 9 in (230 mm)
above the floor.

Switches for the disabled should be the "clap on" type. Except when disability is the loss of one arm.

I vote for motion senser's and pressure switch's in the carpeting to keep the lights on as long as the person is in the room. :D and a snore detector to turn the lights back off when they fall asleep. :D
