max total length of gfci load wire allowed

I did indeed read in the 2005 NEC that the max length of the load wire of a gfci protective device is to be no more than 30 meters or 100 ft. Now I am unable to find it back. What is the code #? Manufacturers (leviton, cooper, hubbell) recommend that it be no longer than 100 ft. I'm looking for the code #.

You might have read that, but you didn't read it in the NEC. Perhaps it was on the manufacturer's instructions of a GFCI device you bought?

The conductors can be as long as the insulation allows, and when it trips the GFCI you have exceeded the length.
