I need to relocate a 100-amp panel (service) due to a wall that has been built. It has 1 branch circuit feeding out of it. My plan is to feed a 100-amp subpanel on the other side of the wall. The branch circuit will move to the new panel.
Some panels state the maximum size breaker that can be installed in the panel. The panel is an Eaton with CH breakers.
Will L&I be ok with this or do I need to dig deeper into the panel specs.

Thank you,

Tod

The panel specs, most times on the door label, will tell you the max stab rating, and/or max breaker size per branch space. If you're planning on a 100A feeder breaker, most will except a 100A. Shouldn't matter what anyone thinks if the panel mfg allows it.

Wire bending space can be a problem before you hit the breaker limit. Most CH 125A panels will easily take a 100A breaker and most I've seen says the stab rating is 140A. What I don't know is if that is the rating per breaker, or the sum of breakers in a row (why say 140A if the bus is limited to 125???). Since I don't know how they define it, I don't put anything large to the side of a 100A breaker, especially if it is a backfed main. Its a good place for a surge suppressor breaker.

I believe you could put a 125A in them, but terminal clearance would be tough, especially if using aluminum.

The rating is per stab.
Don't know where he got 140 from. I'm guessing possibly max breaker is 125, but max for opposite sides combined is 140? Somewhat irrelevant information when you have 125 amp bus because main breaker will be a limiting factor but something to consider in 150+ amp panelboards.

Thank you Little Bill, I finally found it on the door label. (old eyes, looked at at 3 times!)
