When I have small exhaust fan (such as 1/8 hp) for commercial project, I always use 20A circuit breaker at panelboard for the branch circuit. Today I read Table 430.52 Maximum rating or setting of motor branch-circuit short-circuit an ground-fault protective devices. The maximum rating for inverse time breaker is 250% of motor. If the FLA of the small fan is 2A, the maximum rating of the breaker shall be 2.5x2=5A. So 20A circuit breaker is way bigger than the maximum rating. What do you think? Thanks.
