I just found a used Maxis 3000 online for $1000. Does anyone own one or have experience w/ one? Is it worth buying or is there a more versatile unit? I'm thinkintg of pulls 200 Amps and under.

i have a maxis 6000. I was talked into it as opposed to the 3000 by the sales guy and I'm glad he did. I though it would be for 200amp services mostly also but we just did a pull with 4 -500mcm and the 3000 would not have done it. I recommend spending the money on the 6000 - you'll never need another tugger.

Thnks Coppertone. I understand the greater versatility of the 6000. But don't you think that for the price, its worth getting this 3000?

I bought a couple of the 6000s and my guys bent one up pretty badly.

They are really good tuggers, easy set up, and really easy to use, but make sure the guys using them know how to use them or they can really screw them up. I am still pissed about it the damage but Maxis was nice about it and sent new parts for free, and now I make sure my guys are checked out on it before they can use it.

The thing I liked about the 3k was the size and weight if you dont do big pulls the the 3k is a much better deal.

for a grand - yea maybe you should pick it up. you always can buy the 6000 if you start doing jobs requiring it. the 6000 comes with a 2" conduit attachment so you can do 200amp pulls with it. - smaller stuff may require some different rigging with the 6000.

Maxis has an excellent reputation for service, so a used unit should be no problem and the price is right. As ITO said, they are lightweight and versatile, Just make sure all the attachment accessories are there.

You could always rent one first.

There's a new 3K for just over 2.5K on Ebay. Hey!

Hint: search with the "include title and description" option.

i have one. love it. the most i've pulled with it is four 500 mcm copper
thru 225' with 4 90's. worked spiffy.

new they are 2500 including the superhawg. 1,000 is a good price with
a superhawg, unless it's beat to death.

when you can, the best thing to put in your tugging stuff after a
tugger and a rope, that is, is a set of maxis triggers. they are $1,500
new.

i won't pull cable without them any more. it's not even negotiable.
i'll go home.

as for maxis, they are in tempe, az. and their service and warranty
aren't even in a class with anyone else. i found my triggers self
destructed for no reason... and ended up being called by the sales
manager on his cellphone. he just told me where to pick up a new
unit, he called ahead, no paperwork, no delay, and i was able to
pull the next morning.

Randy-
Thanks for the reply. This tugger is $1000 w/o the super hawg. ( I already have it.) It looks pretty well used, but not beat up. I pulled up the cut sheet for it and compared it to the photo that the guy sent me and it looks complete, except for maybe one conduit adapter. I'm hoping to use the money that I save buying it used to pay for a new set of triggers. I'm in SoCal too by the way, North SD County.
