Mc Ap

Anyone used the Southwire MC AP wire? Opinions? Complaints?

It claims to be the same price as standard MC, but with 1/3 the installation cost because of not making up grounds. I suppose it's the same price because they substitute a copper ground wire with an aluminum conductor. I wonder if the connectors are the same cost?

I'm also curious what the inspectors on the forum think of the product as well.

It almost sounds too good to be true.

I have yet to use it since our specs usually require an insulated EGC within the cable. I will likely use it in the future since I'm a big fan of AC cable for the reason that you've mentioned. Fewer terminations.

I agree, I always liked the AC jobs we used to do over the NM jobs.

I used it on a small church that I am now putting the final touches on. I loved this stuff. The cable being smaller than bx needs a spacer on the bx cutter ( a stick on comes with the rolls) once you get your cutter set it a breeze. Split the outer shield, cut the ground and bend it back, push into connector and away you go. Just make sure the connectors are listed for the mc ap. On trim out it surprised me how much more working room it left in the box, I used 4 x 4's with sg mud rings. Made life easier

 I love the stuff, used it whenever possible for the last 2 months. It's lighter is if you have a long walk it's easy to carry. i like the 250' spools are wrapped. I leave the wrap on and pull from the center, helps keep it coiled on the job site or in your van. It also doesn't seem to be a greasy.

I have seen it, and the SW reps did a big demo of it with out local AHJ, and we can actually use it here, but I have yet to see a job that the specs would allow it.

That is the only MC we use here. Guys love it, fewer terminations, faster install, etc. Have used both the Hospital Grade and the standard MC AP.

As another poster mentioned, just make sure you are using the approved connector - there are quite a few of them, so finding a connector shouldn't be a problem.
