My inspector asked or demanded proof that the MC lite cable I was using allowed the use of a single screw connector. Has anyone run into this. He said WE could use the two screw or snap in style. Have not been able to find proof that we can use single screw connectors. left a message with engineering of the MC cable but have not heard back yet.

MC Lite is aluminum jacketed cable, it's not suitable for use with setscrew type connectors.

That would be my guess too unless this connector is the saddle type. First photo yes, second photo no.

I am using the second picture style.

From the website where the second picture is from. I take it as meaning those connectors are not evaluated for use with the cable in question.

F3/8in BX/MC set screw connectors flexible metal conduits are made from cast metal so they are not recommended for aluminum clad cables.

Not just MC lite but any aluminum armored cable. Quite simply because the screw will cut through the aluminum armor not holding properly and at worst possibly causing a short.

Don't know where in a book, but I can confirm that as an apprentice 20 years ago, it's always been that the ones with just a screw can't be used for Al clad. It has to have a plate inside, or be the squeezing or snap-in style.

Sounds like you are on the 2017 NEC and he is referring to the new 330.6. This came about because in this day and age there are so many types of cables and connector types and there was wide spread misapplication of connector types. This same X.6 was added for all the cable types.
