MC Cable Connectors

Crystal City, VA - In wiring up a 277 volt light fixture, is it acceptable to use Snap-in MC cable connectors, or do you have to use a Lock Ring type MC cable connector?

What is the code article that supports this?

Thanks!

Try 330.40

Edit to add 410.44.

Also see 410.56(F) for further logic.

According to the UL white book, the listed snap-in MC connectors are suitable for grounding circuits over and under 250 volts.

METAL-CLAD CABLE
CONNECTORS, TYPE MC (PJOX)
Grounding ? Metal-clad cable connectors for use with metal-clad interlocking
armor ground cable, corrugated aluminum or copper tube, or
smooth aluminum tube, are considered suitable for grounding for use in
circuits over and under 250 V and where installed in accordance with
ANSI/NFPA 70, ??National Electrical Code.??

If I remember correctly there was a time when connectors used for over 250 volts required a locknut for bonding.

As far as I am aware that is only when there are eccentric or concentric KO'S.Because the heat produced from a 277V short is roughly 5 times that of a 120V short.Which would melt the unremoved KO'S.
A typical 2X4 fluorescent has just the trade size 1/2" KO.The snap in should be fine.

Yes. Our snap-ins are rated and listed for that use. They meet the requirements of UL514B, which are the same for a locknut style, strap fitting as they are for a snap-in equivalent. Ours are also easy to remove compared to other snap-in's out there.

Make sure the cable size matches the rating of the fitting.

RockyD - You are right on with 330, 410.44. You can add 250 as well.
