Re: MC Cable Feeders

517.13(A) says that as long as the outer metal sheath is identifiable as an acceptable grounding return path then it is a permissible wiring method.

Re: MC Cable Feeders

When speaking of feeders for the Normal or Equipment Branch MC or AC is fine.

There is no redundant grounding requirement for feeders.

Re: MC Cable Feeders

Stew HCF is Health Care Facilities Cable. But Roger is correct They where asking about feeders.
But for 517.13 you would use HCF cable.

Re: MC Cable Feeders

I guess I must be misreading 517.13(A) The last sentence specifically allows the use of MC cable If the sheath is identified for use as an equipment grounding path. Where did I misinterpret?Or is HCF cable a type of MC that meets this criteria.. Where is HCF cable shown in the code by the way?

Re: MC Cable Feeders

Stew,
The jacket of the standard interlocking armor type of MC cable is not suitable for use as an equipment grounding conductor, so this cable can't be used for 517.13. The jacket of MC cable of the smooth or corrugated tube type is suitable for use as an EGC, but this type of cable is not normally used.
