Is it permissible to use mc cable run on the surface of drywall as a wiring method . This is in a residential garage which now has nmc stapled to the wall with no protection. If mc is not permitted how about flexible metal conduit. I knoew this sounds like probably a dumb question but I dont do much with either of these methods so I am not quite certain how the code is interpreted for thes 2 methods.

Re: mc cable

Nearly every cable section and a few raceway sections restrict the use in areas where exposed to damage, however this is relative to the specific method. This comes down to good judgment.

Both MC and FMC are permitted for exposed work per their respective articles. :)

Re: mc cable

That what I reasoned by the reading of the articles. This nmc folows the ceiling at the junction of the wall and ceiling and is of course out of reach. The only plae wher it is below ceiling height is where it come down to 2 receptacles mounted about 4 1/2 feet above the floor and not in an area which I would be concerned about.. Thanks for your quick response. Joe
