a stud wall is being built between existing concrete columns. I would like to rough the wall with mc - 3 recep. 1 switch. Is it permissable to saddle surface emt around the column in and out of the wall and sleeve jacketed mc through it? 12-2 mc through 3 feet of 3/4 inch emt

It's fine as long as you can get the MC cable through the EMT connectors.
3/4" should be big enough.

Wait....but how will you connect the EMT connector to a wall, or column?

As stated, Yes, clearly 330.10(A)(7) permits Type MC Cable to be installed "in any raceway", just remember that you have to review other sections, such as 300.15(C), 312.5(C) and 314.17 for various limitations that need to be overcome. Not knowing your actual application these references are purely as additional information to consider.

Just curious, why would you even need EMT connectors? All you are really installing is a round metal sleeve that bears a striking resemblance to EMT. You aren't actually installing EMT.

He would need an EMT Connector if he is sleeving the MC Cable through an sleeve of EMT that has one end connected to a junction or device box. But my previous post still applies and all the limitations to be aware of also apply. just remember again that other sections, such as 300.15(C), 312.5(C) and 314.17 for various limitations that need to be overcome.
