This is the first time were I need to bid a job per opening using MC in place of Romex. I usually charge about $45 per opening (give or take) for receptacles, what range would most charge for the same done in MC with metal boxes.

Figure standard 15 or 20 amp ckts done for residential work.

I am an experienced and licensed electrician but have never been requested to do commercial grade work in a stick build home. Any insight would help greatly.

Thanks, Steve

I find that my unit labor for MC recs, using metal boxes with integral MC clamps, is about 15% higher than romex with plastic boxes. You can figure out your unit material difference pretty easily with a phonecall to your jobber.

Labor will be a lot higher. As to how much more depends on how good you are at both.Forced into bidding it i would figure at least 50% more time.Hard to beat a romex price. And be carefull as prices are changing fast on wire.

MDSHUNK may be right about the 15% more labor but I would try to get more than that because most homeowners or residential contractors are not familiar with commercial pricing. I like to use deep 1900 boxes and plaster rings and I wire every thing in 12/2. But the GFCI receptacles and dimmers fit a lot easier. You can use the shallow boxes for regular receptacles. I don't like the little nail up boxes. I try to get about 50% more for commercial grade even for residential to cover labor and materials. Through some higher figures out there and let them try to talk you down. Also get you MC on the spool and set the spool up on pipe to roll it out. It will pull easier.

Now, if we're talking about 4 squares, connectors, mud rings, and steel studs, etc, my unit labor costs are 40% higher than with romex and plastic nail on boxes. For MC wired recs, I usually figure the home run in EMT, but I figure home run unit labor for home runs seperate from the device openings.

If you get the MC on rolls, using a "sit and spin" type unreeler is a must. Lacking that, get the MC on a spool as Growler suggests or your unit labor costs will go to pot.

I'm not eles. Is anybody else eles?

Ryan, now that is :D :D :D :D :D :D , my eyes are watering :D . As for commercial opening about double what residential is per opening, but I would not estimate like that to many variables, my advise go with unit pricing.
