MCC / Distribution Room

I have question on access to a mcc /distribution room. Is there a code issue with access to this room "that is on a catwalk" being only accessible by a permanent ladder. We are talking about 480/277v. There are 2 mcc's 600amp ratings, 3 distribution panels 600amp ratings, with room for 4000amp MDP. Note: This room can be accessed with a 1ton crane and has no sealing top or walls just hand rail surrounding it.

"Ladder Or Stairs" space is limited.

Bryanret, you need to read over article 110.26(C)(1)(2).For equipment rated under 1200 amps, only one entrance is required to the working space.There is'nt any specifics on the the type of stairs leading to the working space as long as the required space about the equipment is maintained.Once you go 1200 amps and above, two entrances are required to the space with some exception. If suffecient space is maintained (atleast double the minimum working of the voltage ,7' in your case), only one entrance can be excepted.
