Greetings,

I am sizing the main breaker for an existing MCC. The MCC load demand is not more than 200A but one of the feeder breakers is 250A because there was some load in the past that no longer exists.
My question is, can I put a 200A as a main even though there is a 250A feeder breaker in the MCC? Do we have anywhere in NEC that prohibits it? I heard there are some inspectors that don't allow that, is that right?

Thank you in advance.

As long as the conductors are properly protected and the connected load is less than 200 amps, I don't see a code issue.

However it will limit the future use of the MCC. Typically a MCC feeder will have an ampacity equal to the bus rating of the MCC.
