1)Is a means of disconnect switch required to be installed within sight for a CAT scan machine? 517(a) says it shall be provided in the supply circuit. 517(B) says in needs to be readily accessible from the X-Ray control.

There is a note on the manufacture spec's that it is 'desired' to install one, if not then the pwr can shutoff from the mcb.
The mdp is approx. 100' away and not within sight.

2) I believe the CAT scan machine is defined as a Fixed X-Ray Equipment. Is this correct?
I sized the conductor ampacity and ocpd not less than the Momentary ratings of the machine. The momentary rating are <40KVA at 480V 3phase. I used a 50A cb with #8AWG.

please advise

Re: means of disconnect switch for CAT scan machine

The manufacturer usually wants a circuit breaker/disconnect in the equipment room. Most usually also provide a Estop button in the control room that either trips a shunt trip breaker or shuts off power some other way.

Our local AHJ requires a circuit breaker in the control room. The Estop with a shunt trip won't satisfy him.

The manufacturer usually provides a chart with wire sizes for the distance from the supply, and the main breaker size.
