We removed a sump pump motor from a pit to check because of tripping the cb Motor has been in service for about a year now, cycles every 20 minutes or so , 5 days a week , 8 hrs a day.
We checked the motor and found the cable attached to the control box to the motor was damaged . It appeared cable were nicked near the pump inside the pit.
We removed all but 4' of cable to test motor winding before sending it out for repair.
We used a fluke 1587 to test motor. We megged motor and got a reading of .4 megs . Also found continuity from winding leads to egc and case of motor .
Outside shop reported empeller was eaten away but windings were ok. We also compaired our reading to the alternate pump in same pit . Motor had a reading of over 1 gig. Both are 7.5 hp 480v. Where did we go wrong with our call ?

Could have been the cable into the housing, it depends on how they tested the motor.

You meggered conductor to conductor
phase to phase-should be dead short
phase to ground
Correct?
And you meter is calibrated?

No i meg each of the 3 conductors to ground.
And continuity test from conductor to ground and then winding to winding.

Thanks for the help.
