I was megging a single phase sump pump motor 230v with two caps. The caps are above ground and the motor is below in the pit. With the starter in the open position I got 120 volts on the motor leads and can only guess the power is from the caps some how. Why would the motor have 1/2 power at all times? I also tryed megging motor with all power off and the megger set at 500v would only show 20v and only could guess that the batteries were dead. I was using a fluke 1578 and it did not show that the batteries were dead. There was not any power to motor . any ideas about meter or the motor. Thanks for the help.
