I am looking at Meltric Decontactor plugs for 50 and 60 amp circuits to test equipment . Would like to try these instead of having to install a regular disconnect switch before the outlet .Just wondering if anyone has used these and what they think !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use them in 3 phase, 208 volt, 20, 30 and 60 amp versions for food service equipment.

I think they are high quality and well designed.

Many options as well, plastic or metal, aux switches, large E stop style buttons can be ordered for easy off.

theyre expensive (more than a disco + pin and sleeve), plus you have the hassle of having to unplug the cable, set it down, pick it back up, plug it back in every time you want to remove and reapply power to the machine. Theyre good connectors for situations where you need to be able to break the connection under load, but they seem less than ideal for your application.

I evaluated them for use in construction temp lighting and power. They are really awesome pieces of connection equipment - very well made, durable, and impressively functional. However, they are REALLY expensive. Prohibitively expensive for most applications, I think. Like, $300 for a 30A 5-wire plug/receptacle pair. Probably only cost effective for industrial environments where the toughness is required and the cost is irrelevant.

I think for 30A 5 wire, i would stick with a disco and L21-30, or use the hubbell safety shroud line (which are still much cheaper than pin+sleeve) if I was worried about the pins on the male getting bent.
