I believe I recieved my answer from another topic. Just to make sure however... I am running an overhead feeder to a detached garage from the main panel. I'm setting a 240/120 subpanel at garage. So the overhead feeder must be two phases conductors, a grounded neutral, and a grounding conductor. Right? Can the messenger wire be used as the grounding conductor?

I thought it would be easier than this. I guess that's why you're asking. :D

First the messenger will have to be acceptable under 250.118 if it's also the EGC.

396.2 is a definition but it also looks like a requiremet.

The only thing I'm sure of is that you can use "factory-assembled arial cable".
