When there is metal conduit going above the ceiling or just up the wall, when the pipe is terminated and the wire then goes into the floor joist or above the suspended ceiling, does there need to be a bushing at the end of the metal pipe. What locations require this(residential, commercial)? Or is it not required.

Re: Metal conduit bushings?

300.4(F) Where raceways containing ungrounded conductors 4 AWG or larger enter a cabinet, box enclosure or raceway, the conductors shall be protected by a substantial fitting providing a smoothly rounded insulating surface, unless the conductors are seperated from the fitting or raceway by substantial insulating material that is securely fastened in place.

Re: Metal conduit bushings?

Are you talking about a length EMT on a wall for protection of Romex? I think in that case it is necessary. I believe Arlington or Halex makes a snap on grommet just for that.

Your words say "wire", but your installation says "cable, cable cable!" :)

Are you referring to conduit used to bring NM out of a cabinet/panel as in 312.5(C) Exception?

Re: Metal conduit bushings?

It's in a unfinished basement where they have metal conduit going up the wall and then the conduit doesn't continue up into the ceiling. Does it have to be protected with a bushing when the conduit ends.

Re: Metal conduit bushings?

Yes....312.5(C) as Brian said....Cable / "romex" either a "knock on" bushing or an emt connector with a threaded bushing....
