Can someone tell me where NEC says that bushings are not required with MC

It doesn't say that anywhere but it doesn't say that bushings are required either.
Unless required by the NEC then you wouldn't need to use them unless there is a local amendment that had such a requirement for some reason.

Agreed. There is no requirement. But I kind of think they make the MC easier to install.
