Metal tubing for a patio cover or EMT?

Hello All,
I had a customer ask me if he could use the metal tubing of his patio cover as a raceway? I suspect NM cable would be used as the conductor, but if it is allowed can we use THHN?

But first I guess I need to know if there is a code section that addresses this...

Individual coductors need to be in a listed raceway which the tube probably isn't. You could use it as a sleeve for pulling in a cable.

A patio cover would require THWN, so NM could not be used. You could use PVC coated MC cable.
