I have read the faq section and looked over the previous 500 posts having any thing to do with water. I could not find a solution to this situation. There is a 100 foot by 300 foot metal structure with a main panel inside the structure at the midpoint; near an exit door. At the end of the building is a 2" metallic water pipe penetrating the structure (150 feet away from the main panel). The 2" metallic pipe meets an underground plastic pipe about 18" below grade. I am not sure if the metal structure is being used as one of the grounding electrode means. Does the metallic water pipe have to have an GEC run to the panel? If there is a ground ring around the building that is attached to the main panel, can the water pipe be bonded to the ring as an alternative to going back to the panel? Can the metallic water pipe be attached to building steel if the steel is being used as a grounding electrode - instead of running a GEC back to the panel?
