Metalic Junction Boxes Used in Extension Cord Make-up

Is it acceptable practicce to use UL listed metalic wall junction boxes[ in the fabrication of extension cords if fabricared by qualifed electrical personnel using UL listed components? If not please identify the specific NEC code violation. Info appreciated.

I'm pretty sure that it's an OSHA issue unless the box has a threaded hub. Someone may chime in with the particulars.

For the application of the NEC, I see that as a pendant supported box, and for that application the code requires the box to have a threaded hub.

OSHA, and the State of WA (and many others) requires all electrical items to be NRTL listed. You can make them, but would need to submit them to a Field Evaluation Body to get it OK'd. That would cost much more than just buying one no matter how much you over pay.

I developed quite a dislike for 4X4 boxes combined with a raised device cover, on a extension cord, users would drop them carelessly deforming the cover mounting screws.
