Metallic receptacles?

Found these at Home Depot the other day, and my initial reaction was 'aw, cool' -- and then it hit me -- how does this not short itself out? Isn't there a direct connection between the neutral and hot prongs?

You really need to check one with a meter to be sure, but turn it right side up first.

No metallic parts would be on the surface of the recptacle

Yeah, it looks and feels like metal but maybe it's just a really good plastic finish.
