Hello,

I will be conducting a project soon and I wanted to inquire about what are the rules now since we got the new NEC 2020 Book to abide by.

According to 230.85

230.85 Emergency Disconnects.

For one- and two-family dwelling units, all service conductors shall terminate in disconnecting means having a short-circuit current rating equal to or greater than the available fault current, installed in a readily accessible outdoor location. If more than one disconnect is provided, they shall be grouped.

Does anyone know how this would affect my work?

Would I need to install a disconnect for the apartment complex?

If so, would I need a disconnect per meter can? or per meter entity?

Please advise,

Thank you!

The eording of this section is poor, and had resulted in many questions here.

>>Need emergency disconnect if its a 1 or 2 family dwelling

Would I need to install a disconnect for the apartment complex?
>> NEC does not use term apartment.

If so, would I need a disconnect per meter can? or per meter entity?
>>>Disconnects are for service conductors.

Please advise,

Thank you!

How many units in the building? If there are more than two, the new rule in 230.85 does not apply. It only applied to one and two-family dwelling units.
