The service comes under ground to the bottom of the meter can and and there is no room run more wire with out having to take the entire service down.
Can i run out the top of the METER CAN ? to add a service disconnect then back to the meter can. to supply the panels
400 amp service 320amp meter socket. 400 Cooper wire.

I believe the point is, the disconnect must always be on the load side of the meter.

Or

You can't use the meter socket as a j box.

I have to ask. Why would you want to come back to the meter can?

Is there any reason you can't leave the meter can and head underground and come up wherever you want to your service disconnect?

I think his load is on one side of the meter can, but he wants to nipple there/back to a service disconnect on the other side. Using the meterbase as a j-box.
