I have 277/480V three phase 800A service that has electric utility meter and CT/cabinet. The first disconnect is 800A fused disconnect which feeds Panel MDP. The Panel MDP has main bonding jumper, main service grounding electrode system.

I have someone who is saying 800A fused disconnect is a meter disconnect.

Am I correct or incorrect to say the 800A fused disconnect is Not meter disconnect since their is CT cabinet which isolates the POCO meter not needing any disconnect and 800A fused disconnect is main service disconnect and thats where main bonding jumper and main service grounding electrode system be?

After the first point of service disconnect . 1) Meter main disconnect is the first point disconnect then the can gets bonded and no bond required after for Main distribution panel or sub panels neutrals and equipment grounding conductors get separated .2) Or a straight meter pack fed into a Main Distribution panel the M.D.P. is the first point of disconnect so then that gets bonded and any sub panels after require no bond and neutrals and equipment grounding conductors get separated.

Yes we need to know where the disco is in relation to the CT cabinet. If it is after it, then of course their claim is complete hogwash. IF it is before it, then I see it as compliant with 230.82(3), although quite unconventional. I have never heard of a meter disconnect switch used on a CT service, but I see nothing in the language prohibiting it. If you really dont like it, you could ask them to provide POCO specs that require a meter disconnect ahead of a CT cabinet.

I can't imagine an utility permitting a disconnect on the line side of the CTs. Makes it too easy to steal power.

I have never heard of a utility requiring a meter disconnect for CT metering.

Although I have also never heard of it, doesn't seem like a big deal - disconnect could just be lockable like any other meter disconnect. Although I would not be thrilled about having OCPD's under a POCO lock and key. NF would be better, but often won't have the SCCR if we are talking a CT metered service.
