I have a restaurant where the Main Bldg Disc. is about 200ft away from the restaurant and it's a 480/277 service. I'm using a 150KVA CT to step down to 208/120. The CT will be located on a trapeze in plenum above the office in the restaurant.

The matter in question is the location of the METER. If it were to be placed way back at the Main Bldg. Svc. the reading would pick up some line losses. Is there code on the distance for meters? Also, the contractor asked if the meter should be on the load side of the CT(That's where it is shown). Is this right or should it be on the Srvc. side of the CT?

Re: Meter location

What does CT mean? I have always used CT to mean Current Transformer.

If I understand your question, you are talking about the location of the electric utility's cash register. If that is correct, it is their decision as to the location. If you are talking about sub-meters, place the meter in whatever location to get the readings you want. If this is to divide the bill, put the meter at the source of power to the restaurant so the restaurant owner pays for his own losses. If an electric utility puts a meter on the primary but bills for a secondary service, an adder is put into the bill to cover the losses. :)
