Since I don't do much residential work, I'm looking for recommendations on folks' favorite meter/main combos.

I'm looking to replace the clapped out meter pan on my home soon. Probably a 320/400A meter main to prep the home for EV charging. I like the idea of exterior disconnecting means as well. The home has an overhead service.

I need space for at least (3) 2-pole breakers:
200A feed for the new panel I'll put in the basement (replacing a 150A water-damaged QO panel).
200A feed for a new panel in the attached garage (shop loads and eventually EV chargers)
40A breaker for an existing 8kW solar array that's connected with a line-side tap right now.

I know people here have strong feelings on what they like and don't brand-wise.

Thanks,

What every you pick, do the project before they adopt the 2020 code in your area, as such installations are prohibited in the 2020.
We're still on the 2017 code here in NJ. I'm planning on this project for next month. Probably time to make friends with the local supply house; they should know what the local PoCo likes to see, I suppose.

Install a 320 meter base - put two main breaker 200 amp feed through 8/16 panels one on each side of the meter or both on one side of the meter or under the meter leaving room for the utilities. . That'll cover every thing you have described and more.

They make a fancy single meter base combo with two 200s and 4 more spaces but they're hard to find.
Other choice is to install a single meter combo with two 200 amp breakers. then feed your other circuits out of the 200 amp panels.
