In your opinion would it be legal for the local power co. to remove an existing meter from a residential socket, Then install a conversion kit for remote meter reads. What this entails is crimping leads from conversion kit to service entrance cables. New meter plugs into conversion kit.

Re: meter socket work

A meter is not required by the NEC. If you want power from a utility that requires a meter, you play by their rules.

Re: meter socket work

I don't mean to change the subject, however I think the question has been answered and my comment is related.

I recently went to a new sub-division of several 2-family dwellings. All services are comming in underground. The contractor is responsible for installing the meter enclosure only, and the FPL sub-contractor is installing the service lateral and conduit from the transformer to the meter location.

Here's the weird part. The utility contractor has run 2" PVC to the the first meter enclosure location and from that meter to the other meter location to the next building over. So basically, the service for one building is fed through the meter enclosure of the building next door.

Anyone see a problem with this arrangement?

I would if I was the property owner...the utility would need an easement to run the service lateral for another property across my property.

Here the property owner owns everything from weatherhead to the MDP.For them to change it in anyway is probably not legal. They recently changed mine to that digital system.Personally i like it so not saying nothing.Does anyone have any pictures to post ?
Fighting them might turn south on a customer and they could end up hiring an electrician
