I am needing to find the peak load in a sub panel. Does anybody know of a product I can temporarily install on the line side of the panel to monitor this without breaking the bank?

You can check out the omni-meter from EkM metering.com. I have used them. They are more intended as KWH meters for sub metering but they told me they will measure demand. Probably will end up being 1/4 the price of a logger.
