I work for a utility and management wants to put metering pts in pad mount transformers my concern is that the fault current that is avaliable in some padmounts 277/480 volt and working clearance. Im pushing to keep them in customers switchgear cold sequence for saftey reasns maybe im not on the right tract any thoughts ? Thanks

We frequently meter our large services in the XF. They have CT's made to slip over and fit the spades perfectly. Naturally the pot has to be off in order to install these. Of course, the power needs to be off in order to install them on services in switchgear also. And if any maint. needs to be done, the power needs to be off no matter where the metering is located. The meters actually go on the outside of the pot. Maybe I am not seeing the problem as you do. I actually like them in the XF, there is more room.
 
That is the same here, if the service gets a pad mount transformer and it is CT'ed then we mount the utility multi jaw ct meter using uni-strut right next to the pad stubbing a 1 1/2" RMC down into the pad openings for them to pull in there #12awg wire to the potential and CT's we haven't set a CT cabinet in a long time.

You running voltages higher than 480 eh.. The PT's will mount right to the divider wall at the front. Mount them with self drilling screws.
 
Why install PT's? Just fuse the 480 and buy a 480 rated meter. Less stuff to fail.

Check with your pad mount transformer supplier, they will put in a voltage transformer plate in the secondary cabinet.
