Metering Requirement

Hi,

One of the metering requirements from a local PUC is the following:

600V delta and 347/600V wye services are NOT ACCEPTABLE in the same
electrical room.

Could somebody explain this to me?

PUC = Public Utility Company = POCO = Power Company?

Are they saying they will not supply two separate services a delta and a wye?

seems kind of redundant given that in most cases you are limited to a single service anyway.

I can't see how having them in the same room would present any special danger that having them in seperate rooms would remove.

educate me please.......

600v delta? 600/347 wye?

Never heard heard of such beasts.

Not that they don't exist, but can you use 600 v rated wire on those systems (what if they're running a-little high?)

What does 600 give you (which I thought systems were designed at 480 then made the jump to thousands?) when most things run at 480 and under?

Does the service come in at 600 (in stead of thousands) then you can knock it down to the 277/480 and such?

thank you.

will google.

230.2 Number of Services. A building or other structureserved shall be supplied by only one service unless permitted
in 230.2(A) through (D). ...
...
(D) Different Characteristics. Additional services shall
be permitted for different voltages, frequencies, or phases,
or for different uses, such as for different rate schedules.
Would 600v delta and 600/347 qualify?

I agree. Just stabbing at the POCO's reason... Errant interconnection of the systems, and working on either with only its disconnect opened. Having them in different electrical rooms would not prevent an interconnection of systems, or common exposed energized parts when only one disconnect is open, but it would reduce the likelihood.

Just because they can, probably no real rhyme or reason, just somebody over there thought it was a good idea. Don't know what you would gain by having a delta service with basically the same voltage. I don't think the ground fault gear would be any cheaper either. But this is Cananda, :D
