MFG Home - Use Same Ground & Neutral BAR ??

Cant find in my reference materials. When wiring a meter on pole with disconnect for a 4 wire manufactured home system...Can the ground wire and neutral be attached to the same bar or does a separate grounding bar need to be installed ??

The panel that you wire the mobile home up to, that sits on the pole, YES, if it's the main panel and not a sub panel. The panel inside the mobile home, NO.

Please verify...I asked 2 opposing questions, so I just want to make sure the yes & no are correct.. Answer this simple one...Can the ground and neutral(that go to the mfg home) share the same bar on the meter box/main disconnect that is attached to the electric company pole ??

grounds and neutrals stay together untill after the first disconnect.Any panels after first disconnect must be seperated.

Yes the grounding conductors at the service disconnect must be connected to the neutral.

550.33 Exception does allow a 3 wire feeder to a disconnect outside of a manufactured home then from it has to be 4 insulated conductors to the inside panel, The only need for the disconnect would be if the service is more than 30' from the home, other wise a feeder with 4 insulated conductors has to be run to the panel in the home, and the neutral conductor has to be kept separated from the grounding. ;)

So I am inclined to give this answer, If you do not know the answer to this question then you should seek another profession for a while until you knowledge is better.

Just as a reference so not to worry you all as an Instructor. I teach High School ELECTRONICS, not electrical wiring for homes...Just had some students interested in doing a unit on HOME WIRING and wanted to make sure I understood the 4 wire basics, as all my references only stated 3 wire systems.

Brad you will find these requirements in article 550 of the NEC NFPA 70, But also manufactured homes will also fall under the Federal regulations of HUD which supersedes the NEC this would be 24 CFR Part 3280.800 which can be viewed on the HUD web site HERE

24 CFR Part 3280

3280.801
Scope.

(a) Subpart I of this standard and part A of Article 550 of the
National Electrical Code (NFPA No. 70-1993) cover the electrical
conductors and equipment installed within or on manufactured homes and
the conductors that connect manufactured homes to a supply of
electricity.

(b) In addition to the requirements of this standard and Article 550
of the National Electrical Code (NFPA No. 70-1993) the applicable
portions of other Articles of the National Electrical Code shall be
followed covering electrical installations in manufactured homes.
Wherever the requirements of this standard differ from the National Electrical Code, this standard shall apply.
