MH Ballasts

What will be the negative effects of connecting a MH ballast that is prewired 240v to a source that is 208v?
Lamp may not start reliably, especially at extreme temperatures.
Will probably not deliver full rated light output.
Not really likely that the ballast or lamp would be damaged though.

Thanks for the answer. When you say extreme temps.....do you mean high, low, or both?

Both actually.
Extreme cold may make it hard to vaporize the working metal to ramp up to full output.
Extreme heat may increase the gas pressure inside the tube and make it hard to strike the initial arc. (But that would require hundreds of degrees, I think before you see any effect.)
Both will be made worse by having a low voltage available.

Do the ballast or lamp manufacturer's specifications give you any clues?
