MI cable

I have engineer that says MI cable does not need to be in conduit. Can MI cable be installed without conduit or does it need to be in conduit?

No it does not go in conduit and it would be nearly impossible do. We've installed it in a cable tray but I wouldn't recommend that either.

Ha! Basically, MI cable is conduit.

If they are wanting MI for it's fire restive rating there are other, newer cables that are often more preferred.

I agree Vitalink MC cable is horrible too but it's much better to work with than MI cable.
